Ready for 2009? Check Out IDC’s Predictions…

Posted by Frank Gens on January 5th, 2009

Welcome to 2009. This first work week of the year is a great time to think about the weeks and months ahead – and what you’ll need to do. Here are some tools that may help:

Last month we released IDC’s IT and Telecom industry predictions for 2009. The overarching story this year will be about the IT industry’s ongoing and massive transformation – toward emerging markets, SMB and consumer customer segments, and toward Internet/Cloud, mobile, sustainable, community-developed and solutions-packaged technologies and offerings – colliding with the deep global recession.

The key question: Will the recession put the industry’s transformation on hold? Or will it drive even faster change and disruption?

Here’s a video summary of our predictions:

And here’s the 15-page Predictions 2009 document: for IDC clients, and for everyone else.

And lastly, here’s the IDC Predictions web site, where we’re be posting dozens of more detailed, segment-specific predictions: by IT industry product and service segment, by region, by industry, and more.

I tried following the links for everyone else, filled out the form, and got a blank page in Firefox, and a “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” error in IE7

Oh I had a more interesting error (below) I liked the video very much and concur that the move to the cloud will accelerate but I was rather hoping it would precipitate more than tcp_erors though :-)

Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: “”
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

Tony – I couldn’t reproduce the network error. Must’ve been a one-time blip.

Hi Chris – indeed, I had the same issue with the document download link. Having our IT guys check it out – thanks for the heads-up!

Frank

Hello,

Has this error been looked at & rectified. I still seem to get the same problem. Is there any other link I can download the document from?

Thanks for letting me know.

TROUBLE with downloading? Looks like the issue is browser-dependent. I got the error message when I used Chrome, but no problem with Firefox or IE (haven’t tested Safari). So give it another try with one of these browsers, and you should be good to go.
